Those Who Say: Wear What You Wish So Long as You Avoid Extravagance and Pride
Hadith 26491
٢٦٤٩١ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال: (حدثنا) (١) همام عن قتادة عن عمرو بن شعيب عن أبيه عن جده قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "كلوا واشربوا وتصدقوا والبسوا ما لم يخالطه إسراف (ولا مخيلة) (٢) " (٣).
Hazrat Amr bin Shu'aib narrates from his father, from his grandfather, that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Eat, drink, and give charity. As long as there is no extravagance and arrogance in the clothing, then wear it."
Hadith 26492
٢٦٤٩٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن عيينة عن إبراهيم بن ميسرة عن طاوس عن ابن عباس قال: كل ما شئت، والبس ما شئت، ما أخطأتك خلتان: سرف أو مخيلة (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). He says: Eat whatever you wish, and wear whatever you wish, as long as two things are not present: extravagance or arrogance.
Hadith 26493
٢٦٤٩٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا عبد السلام عن مغيرة عن إبراهيم في قوله (تعالى) (١): ﴿وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا أَنْفَقُوا لَمْ يُسْرِفُوا وَلَمْ يَقْتُرُوا وَكَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قَوَامًا﴾ [الفرقان: ٦٧]، قال: لا (تجيعهم) (٢) ولا تعريهم، ولا تنفق نفقة يقول الناس: إنك أسرفت فيها.
Ibrahim, in the explanation of the Divine command { وَالَّذِینَ إِذَا أَنْفَقُوا لَمْ یُسْرِفُوا وَلَمْ یَقْتُرُوا وَکَانَ بَیْنَ ذَلِکَ قَوَامًا }, says: He should neither keep them hungry nor deprive them of clothing, nor spend on them in such a way that people start saying, "You are being extravagant in your spending."
Hadith 26494
٢٦٤٩٤ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن شريك عن عثمان الحاطبي قال: أخبرني (من رأى) (١) على عثمان ثوبًا قوهيًا (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Usman bin Hatib. He says: That man told me this who had seen a white garment on Hazrat Usman.
Hadith 26495
٢٦٤٩٥ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا عبد الرحيم عن إسماعيل بن سميع عن أبي رزين قال: خرج علي بن أبي طالب وعليه قميص من (قهز) (١)، وعليه (بردان قطريان) (٢) (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Razin. He says that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Abi Talib came out, and he was wearing a shirt of white cloth mixed with silk. And over him were two sheets of red colored beaten cloth.
Hadith 26496
٢٦٤٩٦ - [حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن علي بن صالح عن (١) عطاء (أبي) (٢) محمد قال: رأيت على علي قميصًا من هذه الكرابيس غير غسيل] (٣) (٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ata Abi Muhammad. He says that I saw Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) wearing a shirt made of thick cotton cloth, which had not been washed.
Hadith 26497
٢٦٤٩٧ - [حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن ميمون أبي القاسم قال: رأيت على عطاء قميص (زُطيًا) (١)] (٢).
Hazrat Maymun narrates from Abu al-Qasim. He says: I saw a Zati shirt on Hazrat Ata.
Hadith 26498
٢٦٤٩٨ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن خالد أبي العلاء قال: رأيت على الحسن قميصًا (زطيًا) (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Khalid bin Abu Al-Ala. He says that I saw a Zutti shirt on Hasan (his body).
Hadith 26499
٢٦٤٩٩ - (حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن شمعبة عن الحكم قال: رأيت عليه) (١) قميصًا غليظا.
It is narrated about Hazrat Hakam. Shu’bah says that I saw a thick shirt on Hazrat Hakam (his body).
Hadith 26500
٢٦٥٠٠ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن سعيد بن السائب الطائفي عن محمد بن السائب (بن) (١) أبي هندبة عن أبيه قال: رأيت على عمر (ثوبين قطريين) (٢) (٣).
Hazrat Muhammad bin Saib bin Abi Hindiyyah narrates from his father. He says that I saw two Qatari (white clothes mixed with silk) garments on the body of Hazrat Umar.
Hadith 26501
٢٦٥٠١ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن (طير) (١) بن ثعلبة عن أبي النوار قال: رأيت عليا اشترى قميصين غليظين ((خير) (٢) قنبر أحدهما) (٣) (٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu al-Nawwar. He says that I saw Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) buying two thick shirts. Qanbar liked one of them.
Hadith 26502
٢٦٥٠٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن سعيد بن عبيد عن عَليّ بن رَبيعةَ قال: رأيت على علي ثوبين (قطريين) (١) (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Rabee’ah. He says that I saw two Qatari (white garments mixed with silk) on the body of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 26503
٢٦٥٠٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن منصور عن إبراهيم ⦗٥٤٥⦘ قال: (كان من) (١) قبلكم (أسفق) (٢) (ثيابًا) (٣) وأشفق قلوبًا.
It is narrated from Ibrahim. He says that the people before you were strict regarding clothing and soft regarding hearts.
Hadith 26504
٢٦٥٠٤ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا يزيد عن الجريري عن أبي طلحة قال: خرج طلحة بن (عبيد اللَّه) (١) وعليه ثوبان ممصران (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Talha. He says that Hazrat Talha bin Ubaidullah came outside and he was wearing two garments of light yellow color.
