Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Umrah bint Tabikh, she says: My mother sent me, so I bought a bam fish and put it in a basket. Its head came out from one side and its tail from the (other) side. Meanwhile, the Commander of the Faithful, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), passed by me and saw it. He said: This is a very pure thing; it satisfies the family.

Hazrat Kaheel narrates from his father, he says that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pass by us while there was bam fish on our dining mat and we were eating it, and he did not find any objection in it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ikrimah, he says that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) was asked about the bam fish. He replied: There is no harm in it, nothing else except that the Jews had declared it unlawful, and we eat it.

It is narrated from Ibrahim, he says that there is no harm in bam fish. This is the same thing about which people think that it was mentioned in the scroll of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdul A'la that he says: I asked Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair about the bam fish, so he replied: It is from the species of fish. If you like it, then eat it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Munzir Thawri, he says that Hazrat Ibn al-Hanafiyyah was asked about bam fish, spleen, and similar things which are disliked, so he recited this verse: "Say: I do not find in what has been revealed to me anything forbidden..."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Salamah Saigh, he says that I asked Hazrat Ata bin Abi Rabah about the bam fish. So he replied: Eat the thick tail from it.

It is narrated from Ibrahim, he says: Its tail is obligatory upon you (that is, eat the one with a thick tail).

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Hasan, he says that the bam fish is among the catches of the sea.

It is narrated from Hasan, he says that there is no objection regarding bam fish and mar mahi.

Hazrat Hafs says that I heard Hazrat Jafar say: "We feel disgust for any fish that does not have scales, so we do not eat it."

It is narrated from Ibrahim, he says that there is nothing objectionable in bam fish.

Hazrat Hisham narrates regarding Hasan that he saw no harm in eating bam fish.
