Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir. He says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When any of you eats food, he should not clean his fingers until he has licked them, for he does not know in which part of the food the blessing has been placed for him."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any of you eats food, he should not clean his fingers until he has licked them or had them licked."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas. He says that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ate food, he, peace and blessings be upon him, would lick his three fingers. Hazrat Anas says: He, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded us to clean the bowl, and he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "None of you knows in which part of the food the blessing has been placed for him."

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Ka'b bin Mubarak narrates from his father. He says that I saw the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) licking his three fingers after eating.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that he says Hazrat Umar stated: It is not better for any Muslim that when he eats food, he should clean his hand until he has licked it or had it licked.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid that he said: I never saw Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) performing ablution after eating food. Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to lick his fingers after eating, then clean his hand with soil.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that he says: When food was brought to the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, they would not clean their hands until they had licked their fingers.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Uyaynah. He says that I asked Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Abi Yazid: Did you attend the meals of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them)? He said: Yes. I asked: What did you see him do? Hazrat Ubaidullah said: I used to see him licking his three fingers.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded to lick the fingers and the bowl, and said: "You do not know in which part of the food the blessing lies."

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir. He says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When any one of you finishes eating, he should lick his fingers, because he does not know in which part of his food the blessing lies for him."

Hazrat Mujahid narrates about Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that when he finished eating, he would lick his three fingers. And he used to say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person does not know in which part of the food there is blessing."
