Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Samurah narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the seventh day, an (aqiqah) animal will be sacrificed on behalf of the child, his head will be shaved, and he will be named."

It is narrated from Hazrat Amr bin Shu'aib that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered that on the seventh day for a child, 'aqiqah should be performed, the head should be shaved, and the child should be named.

Hazrat Mu'tamir bin Sulaiman narrates from his father about Hazrat Ibn Sirin that he did not see any harm in performing 'Aqiqah before or after the seventh day. And he used to say: Do with the meat of 'Aqiqah as you wish.

It is narrated from Hasan that he says: In ‘Aqiqah, there is a musinnah (mature) goat which is slaughtered on behalf of the child on the seventh day, and the child’s head is shaved and a name is given.

Abu Ja'far narrated. He said, Fatimah, on behalf of her children, used to perform 'Aqiqah on the seventh day, and she would name them, have it circumcised, shave its head, and give charity in silver equal to the weight of its (hair).

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he says regarding ‘Aqiqah: A sheep will be slaughtered on behalf of the child on the seventh day. The child's head will be cleaned. Silver equal to the weight of the hair will be given in charity, and its head will be smeared with blood.
