Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Hammam bin Harith. He says that raisin nabidh was brought to Hazrat Umar. He drank from it. Then he mixed it. So he asked for water and poured it into the nabidh, then drank it.

It is narrated from Ibn Aun. He says that Umar visited some people of the tribe of Thaqif at a time when their food was served. So he said: Eat tharid before eating meat, because it fills the place of deficiency. And when your nabidh becomes strong, then dilute it with water, and do not serve this nabidh to the villagers.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sumayyah. She says that I heard Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) say: If you fear your nabidh, then dilute it with water.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). He says: We were present in the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a bowl containing some beverage was brought to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) brought the bowl close to his mouth, then put it back. Upon this, some of those present in the gathering asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Is this forbidden? The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered, "Bring that beverage back." So the companions returned the beverage to him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for water and poured it into the beverage, and then drank it. And he said: "Look at these beverages. When they become strong for you, then break their strength with water."

It is narrated from Hazrat Salim Dosi that he heard Hazrat Abu Hurairah say: If a person is put in doubt by his nabidh (fermented drink), then he should sprinkle water over that nabidh. Thus, its unlawful part will go away and its lawful part will remain.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira. He says: If a person is put in doubt by his drink, then he should dilute that drink with water.

It is narrated from Hazrat Nafi' bin 'Abd al-Harith. He says that Hazrat Umar said: Drink this nabidh in those asqiyah, that is, vessels. Because it keeps the back straight and digests the food present in the stomach. And as long as you have access to water, this drink will not overpower you.
