Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Simak, he says: We were sitting in a gathering of the Ansar when a drink was brought to one of them. When he wanted to drink it, he blew into it. Upon this, some others said: Leave it, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to forbid this.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu al-Muthanna Johani. He says: I was present with Hazrat Marwan bin Hakam when Hazrat Abu Saeed arrived. Marwan asked him, "Have you heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding blowing into a drinking vessel?" He replied, "Yes." The narrator says: Upon this, a man said, "I do not become fully quenched in one breath." Hazrat Abu Saeed said, "Separate the vessel from your mouth, then take a breath." The man said, "But what if I see something dirty (in the water)?" He replied, "Then pour out that water."

It is narrated from Hazrat Zuhri. He says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade blowing into food or drink. The narrator says, I have not seen anyone more strict in this matter than Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade breathing into a vessel and blowing into it.

It is narrated from the freed slave woman of Hazrat Thawban. She says: I brought a drink to Hazrat Thawban and I blew into it. Upon this, Hazrat Thawban refused to drink that beverage.

It is narrated from Hazrat Qasim bin Muslim, the freed slave of Hazrat Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He says that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for water. So I brought water to him and I blew into that water. Upon this, he refused to drink it and said: You drink it.

Hazrat Burd narrates about Hazrat Mak’hool that he considered blowing into food and drink to be disliked.

Hazrat Laith narrates about Hazrat Mujahid that he also considered this act to be disliked.

Hazrat Abdul Malik bin Iyas narrates about Ibrahim that he disliked blowing into food and drink.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Qatadah narrates from his father that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade blowing into a vessel.
