Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Salim narrates about Hazrat Ata that he did not consider it objectionable to drink in one breath.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Yazid, who says: I have not seen anyone who hastened to break the fast more than Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib. He would not wait for the muezzin. (That is, after the time had come) a bowl of water would be brought to him, and he would drink it in one breath in such a way that he would not break his breath until he finished drinking.

It is narrated from Ayyub, who says: I received information about Hazrat Maymun bin Mehran that he said: Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz saw me in a state where I was drinking water. Then, while drinking water, I would pause and take a breath, so he said: The only thing that has been prohibited is to breathe inside the vessel. So, if you do not breathe inside the vessel, then if you wish, you may drink the water in a single breath.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ta'us, he says: My father saw me drinking water in one breath, so he forbade me… or the narrator says… he forbade me.

Hazrat Khalid narrates about Hazrat Ikrimah that he disliked drinking water in one breath and said that this is the way of drinking of Satan.
