Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Burdah bin Dinar, he says that I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "Drink from all vessels, but do not reach the limit of intoxication."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas, he says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had forbidden nabidh in those vessels. But then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I had forbidden you from nabidh, but now drink from whatever you wish. Whoever wishes, may tie his waterskin for sin."

Hazrat Ibn Buraidah narrates from his father. He says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I had forbidden you from drinking nabidh except in a waterskin. But now you may drink from all kinds of vessels. However, do not become intoxicated."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas, he says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade drinking nabidh from vessels. But then after that, he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, I had forbidden you from drinking nabidh in vessels. So now, drink from whichever you wish. And whoever wishes, let him tie his waterskin on sin."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him). He says that it was submitted to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that not all people have (prescribed) vessels, so he permitted them to use some vessels, that is, utensils.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "I had forbidden you from those vessels, but now you may drink from them, and abstain from every intoxicating thing."

Hazrat Ibn Rasim ... he was one of the people of Hajar and was a jurist ... narrates from his father that he was present in the service of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as part of a delegation, and this delegation had brought charity to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He says that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the members of the delegation from drinking nabidh in those vessels. So they returned to their region. That region of Tihamah was hot. Thus, that land proved suitable for them. Then the next year, they came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with their charity and informed him: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! You had forbidden us from those vessels, so we abandoned them, but it caused us much hardship. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and drink from whatever you wish, and whoever wishes may tie his waterskin on sin."

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir, he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade the use of utensils. So some of the Ansar complained to him and said: O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! We do not have any utensils. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Then this prohibition does not apply."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah, he says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, I had forbidden you from those vessels. However, vessels do not make anything lawful or unlawful. Therefore, you may drink from those vessels."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), he says: Every lawful thing is lawful in every vessel. And every unlawful thing is unlawful in every vessel.

Abu Sha’sha Kindi narrates from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them), he says: I heard Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) saying that a vessel does not make anything lawful nor unlawful.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sha'bi, he says that the nabidh of maize is stronger than the nabidh of a pitcher. No vessel makes anything lawful or unlawful.

It is narrated from Hazrat Zubair bin Adi that he said: The mention was made before Hazrat Shurayh about those water skins in which nabidh is prepared. So Hazrat Shurayh said: These water skins neither make anything lawful nor unlawful. Rather, look at whatever you put in them, whether it is lawful or unlawful.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), he says: Every lawful thing remains lawful in every kind of vessel, and every unlawful thing remains unlawful in every kind of vessel.
