Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: None of you should prevent a patient from eating the food which the patient desires to eat; it is possible that Allah, the Exalted, may grant him cure through it, for Allah, the Exalted, creates cure wherever He wills.

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Mundhir ‘Adawiyyah that she says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to my house, and with him was Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), who was weak after recovering from illness. Our half-ripe dates were hanging. Hazrat Umm Mundhir says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) got up and ate some dates, and Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) also stood up and began to eat. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave it, for you are weak." The narrator says: So Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) sat down, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to eat from those dates. Then I (Umm Mundhir) cooked some greens and barley for them, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Eat from this."

Hazrat Ja'far narrates from his father. He said that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was presented with a tray of dates as a gift, and Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was suffering from fever at that time. The narrator says, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw one date towards Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), then threw another. In this manner, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him seven dates, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped his hand and said: "These are sufficient for you."
