Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah, he says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to me while I was suffering from some ailment. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Shall I not perform ruqyah (spiritual healing) on you with the words that Jibreel taught me? In the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah on you, and may Allah grant you healing from every affliction that harms you, and from the evil of those who blow on knots, and from the evil of the envier when he envies."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite the following words (as a supplication) for the sick, which he would say while mixing his saliva with his finger: "In the name of Allah, the soil of our land, mixed with the saliva of some of us, with the command of our Lord, brings healing to our sick."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to give protection (ta'weez) with these words: "O Lord of the people! Remove the suffering and grant healing, You are the Healer, there is no healing except Your healing, and grant such a healing that leaves no illness behind." Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says, so when the condition of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became more severe in his illness of death, I took his hand and, after wiping it, began to recite these words. Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says, he withdrew his hand from my hand and said: "O Allah! Forgive me and join me with the Highest Companion." Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that this was the last thing I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that I was unwell when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and I was saying at that time: If my time of death has come, then grant me relief, and if my time of death is still far, then grant me healing or well-being, and if this is a trial, then grant me patience. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me, "What are you saying?" Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says, I said this before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as well. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his hand over me and then said: "O Allah! Grant him healing," or he said, "Grant him well-being." After that, I never suffered from this ailment again.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever visits a sick person whose time of death has not yet come, and this person (the visitor) says these words seven times: 'I ask the Mighty Allah, Lord of the Magnificent Throne, to grant you healing,' then the sick person will be cured."

Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit narrates with a chain of transmission from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that Jibreel (peace be upon him) performed ruqyah (spiritual healing) on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when his illness became severe. So Jibreel said: In the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah on you, from every illness that harms you, from every envier when he envies, and from every evil eye, and by the name of Allah you will be healed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would visit a sick person, he would say: "O Lord of the people! Remove the suffering and grant healing, You are the Healer, there is no healing except Your healing."

It is narrated from Hazrat Muhammad bin Hatib, he says: I had grabbed a pot and my hand got burnt, so my mother took me to a man who was sitting on a flat ground, and my mother said, "O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him!" He replied, "I am here." Then my mother brought me close to him, so he began to say some words—I did not know what those words were—and he began to blow (with his breath). Afterwards, I asked my mother what he was reciting, and my mother told me. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was reciting: "O Lord of the people! Remove the pain and grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healer except You."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed, he says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) suffered from an ailment, so Hazrat Jibreel performed ruqyah (spiritual healing) on him. Then he said, "In the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah for you from everything that harms you, from every envious person, and from the evil eye. And Allah, the Exalted, will grant you healing."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to give amulets to Hasan and Husain with these words, saying: "I seek refuge for both of you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and poisonous creature and from every evil eye." And he used to say that Ibrahim (Abraham) also used to give amulets (incantations) to his two sons, Ismail and Ishaq, in the same way.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) has also narrated a similar tradition from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family).

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us this supplication for all kinds of pains and fever: "In the name of Allah, the Most Great, I seek refuge with Allah, the Most Magnificent, from the evil of every throbbing vein and from the evil of the heat of the fire."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a woman came to the service of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with her son and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! My son is affected by jinn, and he has fits morning and evening, and it is a very terrible sight." The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stroked the boy's chest and prayed for him, so the boy vomited once, and something came out of his stomach that was black like a cucumber.

It is narrated from Hazrat Umrah bint Abdur Rahman. She says that Ummul Momineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was suffering from an ailment. Hazrat Abu Bakr came to her and saw that a Jewish woman was performing ruqyah (incantation) on Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), so Hazrat Abu Bakr said: Perform ruqyah on her with the Book of Allah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Fudail bin Amr that he says: A man came to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "So-and-so is ill." Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "Do you wish that he becomes well?" The visitor replied, "Yes!" He (Ali) said: Then say, "O Forbearing! O Generous! Grant so-and-so health."

It is narrated from Hazrat Uthman bin Abu al-As Thaqafi, he says: I presented myself before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in such a state that I was suffering from an ailment which was about to destroy me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, "Place your right hand on the spot of pain and then say these words: 'I seek refuge in the honor and power of Allah from every pain that I feel,' say this seven times." So I did this, and Allah Almighty granted me healing.

Hazrat Sulaiman bin Amr bin Ahwas narrates from his mother Umm Jundub that she says: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that a woman was following behind him and she had her child with her who was suffering from some illness. This woman was saying, "O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! This is my son and he is the only one left from my family, but he has an illness that he does not speak." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Bring me a little water." So water was brought to him, and he, peace and blessings be upon him, washed his hands in it and rinsed his mouth, then he, peace and blessings be upon him, gave this water to the woman and said: "Give some of this water to the child to drink and pour some of it over the child, and ask Allah Almighty for the child's healing." (The narrator says) I met this woman and I said to her, "If you would gift me this child?" The woman said, "This child is in this affliction." Then I met this woman the following year and I asked her about the child, so she said, "He has recovered and he possesses such intelligence that it is distinct from the intelligence of ordinary people."

It is narrated from Hazrat Umar bin Khattab that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Two angels descended, and one of them sat near my head and the other sat near my feet. The angel who was sitting near my feet asked the one sitting near my head, 'What has happened to this man?' He replied, 'He has a severe fever.' The first said, 'Recite a healing prayer (ruqyah) over him.' The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: He did not blow (to perform the ruqyah)... Then he said, 'In the name of Allah, I recite a healing prayer over you, and Allah alone will grant you cure. Take this healing prayer, and may it be blessed for you.'"
