Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Ibrahim. He says that the earlier people used to perform ruqyah (incantations), but they did not like to blow while reciting the incantations.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Al-Hazhaz that he says: I went to Hazrat Dhahhak while he was unwell. I said to him, "O Abu Muhammad! Should I not perform ruqyah (spiritual healing) for you?" He replied, "Why not (rather, do so), but do not blow (with your breath)." Abu Al-Hazhaz says: So I performed ruqyah for him using the Mu'awwidhatayn (the last two chapters of the Qur'an).

It is narrated from Ayyub who says that Hazrat Ikrimah said, "I do not like to say in amulets or incantations: 'Bismillah! Uf.'"

It is narrated about Hazrat Hakam and Hazrat Hammad that they did not like spitting lightly (thathkarna) in incantations and amulets.
