Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that I asked Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) whether a person can buy with debt? He replied: Fear Allah and eat according to what you own.

Hazrat Ibn Aun narrates that it was mentioned to Hazrat Nafi’ (may Allah have mercy on him) that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to buy up to the extent of wealth (i.e., he would say: when the goods arrive, I will pay the amount). Hazrat Nafi’ became angry and said: He used to buy from such people whom he knew and who knew him, so they would give him a respite of one or two years, and there was also a guarantee for them; if they wished, they could sell it and take their payment. And when Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) became able to pay, he would pay it.
