A Person Enters a Bathhouse and Pays the Attendant
Hadith 24699
٢٤٦٩٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا أبو معاوية عن حجاج (بن) (١) أرطأة عن أبي جعفر البجلي قال: دخل رجل الحمام فأعطاه أجرا على دخول الحمام، قال: وأعطاه ثيابه يمسكها، (قال) (٢): فضاعت الثياب، (قال) (٣): فخاصمه إلى شريح، قال: فقال شريح: أعطيت على إمساك (الثياب) (٤)؟ قال: لا، ولكن أعطيته على دخول الحمام، فقال له شريح: قم، فلا شيء لك.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ja'far that a man entered a bathhouse and upon entering, gave money to the bathhouse attendant, and gave him his clothes for safekeeping. Then the clothes were lost. It is said: Both of them took their dispute to Hazrat Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him). Hazrat Shurayh inquired: Did you give him money to keep the clothes? He replied: No, but I gave him money to enter the bathhouse. Hazrat Shurayh said to him: Get up and go, there is nothing for you.
