Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) also demanded an oath with a witness from Ubaidullah bin Harr.

It is narrated in a similar manner from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hazrat Shurayh says that if you do not swear an oath for your right, Allah Almighty will be displeased with your testimony (will displease Allah).

Hazrat Malik says that I asked Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) whether I can make a man swear an oath when he has one witness with him. He replied: Yes!

Hazrat Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) used to administer an oath along with a witness.

It is narrated from Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, that a person presented witnesses against another. His opponent said: "I prefer his oath more than his testimony." Then he was asked to swear an oath, but he refused. Hazrat Shurayh said: "The praise you have given to your testimony is very bad, and their testimony is rejected." Hazrat Abdullah bin Utbah said: "I will not give you the right for which you will not take an oath."
