Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

When debt became due upon Hazrat Muadh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took out wealth from his property for the creditors.

Hazrat Shurayh used to sell whatever was over the lower garment (izar).

It is narrated from Hazrat Bilal bin Harith that there was a man who used to ride expensive mounts and would travel ahead of the pilgrims. Eventually, he became poor. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said in a sermon: "To proceed, indeed a man named Susaif from the tribe of Juhaina was content with being called 'the one who precedes the pilgrims' merely for his piety and trustworthiness. As a result, he has returned as a debtor and now has become a slave because of this. Whoever has any debt to collect from him should come to us; we will distribute his wealth among those creditors."

Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz would not sell a man's slave or his house in exchange for a debt.

Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) declared a person bankrupt and put him to work on hire.

When a destitute person appeared before Hazrat Shurayh, he would distribute whatever remained among the creditors.
