Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Aamir that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was presented with a certain matter. Hazrat Wakee’ said regarding something, he (Ali) said: "This is injustice. If this reconciliation had not taken place, I would have rejected it."

Hazrat Shurayh says that any woman who settles for a price and it is not made clear what her husband has left for her, this is outright deception.

Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, says that I have seen Qadi Shurayh make a decision of reconciliation only once, and it happened as follows: A man entrusted eighty dirhams to a woman. Later, the woman searched through her belongings, and the dirhams were lost by her. So, the dispute was brought before Hazrat Shurayh. Hazrat Shurayh said, "Do you want to accuse her?" He replied, "No." He said, "If you wish, you may take fifty dirhams."

Sometimes when people would come to Hazrat Abdullah bin Utbah with a dispute, he would say, "Go, leave, and make peace with each other."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Sirin that sometimes when people would come to Hazrat Shurayh with a dispute, he would say, "Go to Ubaidah."

Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Send the disputants back so that they may reconcile, for indeed, making a judgment causes rancor to develop among the disputants."

Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a judge. Two people came to him with a dispute. He gave one of them (something) and gave a dinar from himself to the other. When Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard of this, he dismissed him.
