Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Shurayh says that when there is a dispute regarding cash, then for you, the sound, good, and pure is best; if the higher goes away, then descend towards the lower (leave that one).

It is narrated from Hazrat Musa bin Salim, may Allah have mercy on him, that when Hajjaj declared the people of the land free of obligation, a woman came to me with a letter. She believed that indeed her father had been set free. (She said:) This is the one whom Talha bin Ubaidullah bought from so-and-so, who had bought him from a young man in exchange for dinars or dirhams—five hundred dirhams, which were good, excellent, and fine—and he also paid the price, and then set him free for the sake of Allah.

Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) bought a she-camel from two persons at the place of Nakha’, and made it a condition that they would be paid in cash with whatever both of them agreed upon. Then he brought them to his house and took out a pouch for them. They said, “These are counterfeit.” He then took out another pouch, and again they said, “These are counterfeit.” Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “By Allah, I am also one of you. I myself heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever makes a condition with his companion, and does not fulfill it for him, is like one whose neighbor is in trouble and he does not prevent it from him.”
