Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Bakr that a man married a village girl, gave her the dowry, and then he passed away. That girl quarreled with her brothers about the dowry and brought the case to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whatever of your dowry is present, it is for you. And whatever your father has destroyed, you have no right to it.

Hazrat Shurayh imprisoned a man in the matter of a servant who had sold this slave for his daughter. Hazrat Ibn Idris states that I saw Hazrat Ibn Abi Layla imprison a man because of a servant; he had sold him for his son.

Hazrat Shurayh and Abdullah Al-Jadali imprisoned a man who had taken from his daughter's dowry.

Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave a ruling regarding the dowries of women that if they exist exactly as they were, then those women are more entitled to them.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the son will not have any debt upon the father.
