Selling the Service of a Mudabbar Slave
Hadith 23462
٢٣٤٦٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا سفيان عن ابن جريج ⦗٢٤٥⦘ عن عطاء (قال) (١): لا تباع خدمة (المدبر) (٢) إلا من نفسه.
Hazrat Ata says: Do not sell the service of a mudabbar slave, except for yourself. (The master himself can buy it.)
Hadith 23463
٢٣٤٦٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا (وكيع قال: حدثنا) (١) حماد بن زيد عن ابن أبي ذئب عن (قارظ) (٢) بن شيبة عن سعيد بن المسيب قال: لا بأس بخدمة المدبر.
Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib says that there is no harm in selling the service of a mudabbar slave, and Hazrat Zuhri also used to say the same.
Hadith 23465
٢٣٤٦٥ - [حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا حماد بن زيد عن أيوب السختياني ويحيى بن عتيق عن ابن سيرين قال: لا بأس ببيع خدمة المدبر من نفسه] (١).
Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that there is no harm in selling the service of a mudabbar slave, as long as he sells it for himself.
Hadith 23466
٢٣٤٦٦ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن علية عن (١) يونس أن رجلين كان بينهما غلام (فأعتقاه) (٢) على أن يخدمهما ما (عاشا) (٣)، فاشترى أحدهما من الآخر نصيب صاحبه فسئل عن ذلك ابن سيرين فلم ير به بأسًا.
It is narrated from Yunus that two men owned a slave, and they freed him on the condition that he would serve them as long as they lived. Then one of them bought his companion's share. Then Ibn Sirin was asked about this matter, and he saw no harm in it.
Hadith 23467
٢٣٤٦٧ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا أبو خالد الأحمر عن شعبة عن الحكم عن أبي جعفر قال: باع النبي ﷺ خدمة (مدبر) (١) (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ja'far that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) sold the service of a mudabbar slave.
