Those Who Dislike Taking Back a Gift After Giving It
Hadith 23076
٢٣٠٧٦ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا أبو أسامة عن حسين المعلم عن عمرو بن شعيب عن طاوس عن ابن عمر وابن عباس قالا: (قال) (١) رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "لا يحل لرجل أن يعطي عطية ثم يرجع فيها، فمثله (كمثل) (٢) (الكلب) (٣) (أكل) (٤) حتى إذا شبع قاء ثم عاد في قيئه" (٥).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not permissible for a person to give a gift and then take it back; whoever does so is like a dog that eats to its fill, then vomits, and then licks up its own vomit.
Hadith 23077
٢٣٠٧٧ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن علية عن أيوب عن عكرمة عن ابن ⦗١٤٨⦘ عباس قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "ليس لنا مثل السوء العائد في هبته (كالكلب يعود في قيئه) (١) " (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no example for us in the evil ones (that we should follow them). The one who takes back a gift after giving it is like a dog who vomits and then licks it up.
Hadith 23078
٢٣٠٧٨ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا أبو أسامة عن عوف عن (خلاس) (١) عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: ["مثل الذي يعود في عطيته مثل الكلب أكل حتى إذا شبع قاء ثم عاد (في) (٢) (قيئه) (٣) " (٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of a person who takes back a gift after giving it is like that of a dog who vomits after filling its belly and then licks up its vomit again.
Hadith 23079
٢٣٠٧٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن إبراهيم بن نافع عن الحسن بن مسلم عن طاوس قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ] (١): "لا يحل لرجل أن يرجع في هبته إلا الوالد) (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Tawoos that the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) said: It is not permissible for a man to take back a gift after giving it, except from his son.
Hadith 23080
٢٣٠٨٠ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن هشام (بن سعد) (١) عن زيد بن أسلم عن أبيه قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "مثل الذي يعود في (صدقته) (٢) كمثل ⦗١٤٩⦘ الكلب يعود في قيئه" (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Aslam that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of a person who takes back a gift after giving it is like that of a dog who vomits and then licks it up.
Hadith 23081
٢٣٠٨١ - [حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن حنظلة عن طاوس عن بعض أصحاب النبي ﷺ قال: "مثل الذي يعود في (هبته) (١) كالكلب يعود في قيئه" (٢)] (٣).
Hazrat Tawoos narrates from the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of one who takes back a gift is like that of a dog who vomits and then licks it up again.
Hadith 23082
٢٣٠٨٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن هشام الدستوائي عن قتادة عن سعيد بن المسيب عن ابن عباس (أن) (١) رسول اللَّه ﷺ (قال) (٢): "العائد في هبته كالعائد في قيئه" (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The one who takes back a gift after giving it is like a person who vomits and then licks it up.
