If the Finder of Lost Property Loses It
Hadith 23042
٢٣٠٤٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا جرير عن مغيرة عن الحارث العكلي قال: من أخذ شيئا يزيد (الحسبة) (١) فلا ضمان عليه.
Hazrat Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) says that whoever picks up a lost item for the sake of Allah’s pleasure, there is no liability upon him.
Hadith 23043
٢٣٠٤٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا عبد الأعلى (بن عبد الأعلى) (١) عن هشام عن الحسن قال: إذا ضاعت اللقطة فصاحبها ضامن.
Hazrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) says that if the found property (luqatah) is destroyed, the one who picked it up will be held responsible.
Hadith 23044
٢٣٠٤٤ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا يحيى بن آدم عن حماد بن سلمة عن حجاج (عن) (١) رجل عن علي في رجل أخذ ضالة فضلت منه قال: هو أمين (٢).
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that whoever picks up a lost item is a trustee.
