Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib has declared it undesirable to exchange unripe dates for ripe dates; he states that unripe dates are swollen while ripe ones are dry.

Ibrahim considers it disliked to buy ripe dried dates in exchange for unripe dates.

Ibrahim says that ripe dates cannot be bought in exchange for unripe dates.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the sale of unripe dates in exchange for ripe dates, the sale of grapes in exchange for raisins, and the sale of crops in exchange for wheat by measure.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) considered the sale of ripe dates in exchange for unripe dates as disliked. He stated that they differ from each other in weight.

Hazrat Zaid bin Abi Ayash narrates that I asked Hazrat Sa’d whether peeled white barley can be exchanged for corn. He considered it undesirable and said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked whether fresh dates can be sold in exchange for dried dates. He asked, “Will the fresh dates decrease in quantity after drying?” The people replied in the affirmative, so he did not consider it permissible.

Hazrat Hakam declared it undesirable to exchange fresh dates for dry dates in equal amounts.
