Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Sha'bi says that if a person becomes the owner of his brother, then he will become free.

Ibrahim says that if a person owns his paternal uncle, paternal aunt, maternal uncle, or maternal aunt, they will become free. They are like parents for him.

Ibrahim and Hazrat Sha'bi state that if a person becomes the owner of his paternal uncle, paternal aunt, maternal uncle, or maternal aunt, then they will become free; they are like parents for him.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Whoever becomes the owner of a mahram relative, that person will become free.

It is narrated similarly through another chain.

Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says that whoever becomes the owner of a mahram relative, that person will become free.

Hazrat Zubair became the owner of some of his maternal aunts in the battle of Taif, so they were set free.

Hazrat Mistawrid bin Ahnif narrates that a man came to Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "My uncle has married me to the daughter of his slave woman, and through this he wants to make my children slaves." He replied, "He cannot do this."

Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid and Hasan say that whoever becomes the owner of a close relative, that relative will become free.

Hazrat Zuhri says that when a person becomes the owner of a relative, that relative will become free.

Hazrat Hakam and Hazrat Hammad state that when a person becomes the owner of his paternal aunt, maternal aunt, uncle's daughter, or any relative, they will become free.

Ibrahim says that children cannot become the owners of their parents, nor can parents become the owners of their children. The same status applies to paternal and maternal aunts.

Hasan says that if a person becomes the owner of a relative, then that relative will become free.

Hazrat Ata says that whoever becomes the owner of (i.e., guardian over) his paternal or maternal aunt, then they are in the status of a mother.

Hasan says that if a person becomes the owner of a relative, then that relative will become free.

Hazrat Ata says that whoever becomes the owner of his paternal or maternal aunt, they will become free.

Hazrat Shurayh used to set free children if they became slaves of their parents, and parents if they became slaves of their children.

Hazrat Zuhri says that the established practice has been that whoever makes his close relative his slave, that relative will become free. Allah Almighty has commanded maintaining ties of kinship and has forbidden severing them. What greater severing of ties can there be than a person making a relative his slave?

Hazrat Sha'bi says that if a person becomes the owner of his brother, then he will not be free.
