Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim says that there is no harm if a tailor accepts clothes for a known wage. He can accept the wage without specifying it if, in some way, a mark of ten has been made, or it has been cut, or a part of it has been sewn with a needle. If no mark has been made, he cannot receive anything extra.

Hazrat Hammad did not consider it objectionable if a tailor, while taking or giving cloth, deducted two-thirds or half, provided he had cut it or done some work on it.

Hazrat Abu Nazrah says that I asked Hazrat Ikrimah and Hazrat Abu Al-Aliyah that I am a tailor and I sew clothes. The amount I take from it, I fix a lesser wage than that. Is it correct to do so? They asked, "Do you do any work in it?" I said, "Yes, I cut and sew it." They said, "There is no harm in it."

Muhammad says that if a person gives cloth to another and the wage is less than the price of the cloth, then if he has worked on it and cut the cloth, there is no harm in it; however, it is better to seek permission.

Hazrat Abu Ja'far says that if a person gives half, a third, or a quarter of the cloth to the tailor and helps him with something, there is no harm in it.
