Hazrat Mu'tamir bin Sulaiman says that I mentioned to Hazrat Bard: If a man rides and strikes a donkey with a spear and also takes the name of Allah, or strikes with a sword, then what is the ruling? Hazrat Bard narrated the saying of Hazrat Makhool that if he took the name of Allah while striking with the sword or spear, then there is no harm in it.

Hazrat Ata says that if a person recites Bismillah while spearing the game, then he may eat it.

Hazrat Yahya bin Ya'mar says that an animal does not become lawful (halal) by being speared until the spear is struck at its throat and its veins are cut. Because this is not slaughtering, but killing.

Hazrat Simak narrates that sometimes a deer would pass by the people, and they would strike it with their swords in such a manner that its arm would fall in one place and its leg in another. When Hazrat Mus'ab bin Zubair came to know of this, he forbade them from doing so.
