Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us with Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) in an army. During this journey, our provisions ran out. Meanwhile, we saw a (very large) fish which the sea had thrown out. When we intended to eat it, at first Hazrat Abu Ubaidah forbade us, then he said that we are sent by the Messenger of Allah and we are in the path of Allah. Eat this fish. So we ate it. Then when we returned, we mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said, if you have any part of that fish left, give it to me as well.

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that eat the fish which the sea throws out.

Hazrat Abu Sha’sha’ says that eat the fish which the sea throws out.

Hazrat Jabir says that eat the fish which the sea throws out.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf says that the fish which the sea throws out is halal.

Hazrat Zaid and Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with them) say that there is no harm in (eating) a fish which the sea throws out.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib and Hasan state that there is no harm in eating a fish which the sea throws out and then it dies.

Hazrat Abu Ayyub, in the commentary of the verse { مَتَاعًا لَکُمْ وَلِلسَّیَّارَۃِ } of the Holy Qur'an, states that it refers to those animals which the sea throws out, even if they are dead.
