Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Qalabah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to divide justly among his wives and would say: O Allah! This is my division regarding what is within my control, and as for what is not within my control, it is in Your control, so do not hold me accountable for it.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to divide justly among his wives and would say: O Allah! This is my division regarding what is within my control, and do not hold me accountable for what is not within my control, for that is in Your control.

Hazrat Yahya bin Saeed (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) had two wives. He disliked that on the day of one wife's turn, he would even perform ablution from the other wife's place or stay with the other.

Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, says that if a person has two wives, then even performing ablution at the house of the other wife on the day allotted to one is disliked.

Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I had two wives, and I used to act justly even in giving attention between them.

Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the predecessors liked that equality should be maintained between wives even in the matter of applying perfume. The same perfume should be applied for one as is applied for the other.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say to a man who had more than one wife that the predecessors were so cautious in maintaining equality among their wives that if there was something left over from sattu or grain, etc., which could not be measured, they would divide it with their palms.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that when the illness of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intensified, he sought permission from his other wives to stay in the house of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) for care. All of them granted permission, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed at the house of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever has two wives and inclines towards one of them more than the other, he will be raised on the Day of Resurrection with one side of his body leaning down.
