Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdul A’la (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked that a man married a woman in exchange for prompt (ajil) and deferred (ajil) dower, the man also had lawful intercourse with the woman, but the woman claimed that he has not yet paid the prompt dower. So Hazrat Abdul A’la (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Sa’eed (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated regarding Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) that he used to say that in the case of prompt dower, the way for the woman to receive the dower is that this much dower remains due on the man, and the man’s intercourse with the woman means he is free from the prompt dower.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say that prompt dower (mahr) will be taken from the man.
