Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that if two men married two sisters, but each was brought a woman other than his own wife, then both women will receive the dowry, and for the dowry, the husbands will refer to the one whose mistake caused this to happen.

Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) also used to say the same.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) also says the same.

Hazrat Khallas (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that once two brothers married two sisters, and each of them brought another woman besides his own wife. This case was presented in the court of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He ordered that each woman be returned to her original husband and instructed that the husbands should not go near their wives until the waiting period (‘iddah) had passed. Then he made the dowry (mahr) obligatory upon those who had consummated the marriage, and imposed the penalty on the person who had arranged the marriage.
