Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Mak’hool says that I said to Hazrat Zuhri, “Do you not know that Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Ibn Mas’ood, and Hazrat Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with them) held the opinion until their deaths that the non-pregnancy of a slave-girl can be determined by one menstrual cycle? Whereas Hazrat Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) held the opinion of waiting for two menstrual cycles.” Hazrat Zuhri said, “I will tell you of another companion, and he is Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit.”

Hazrat Abdullah says that one menstrual cycle is sufficient to determine if a slave woman is free from pregnancy.

Hazrat Sillah, Qutham, and Najiyah say that whoever buys a slave-girl should not go near her until she has menstruated.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says regarding the slave woman with whom her master has had intercourse, that when she is sold or set free, she will ascertain the purity of her womb through one menstrual cycle.

Hazrat Mughira says that I asked Ibrahim, if a man buys a slave woman who has a husband, what is the ruling? He replied that he should be certain of the emptiness of her womb by one menstrual cycle.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that whoever buys a slave woman should not go to her until he is certain of the emptiness of her womb through one menstrual cycle.

Ibrahim also considered one menstruation to be sufficient.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that one should be certain of the womb being empty for one menstrual cycle.

Hazrat Mak’hool states that when a slave-girl is purchased, her being pure will be assumed for one menstrual period.

Hazrat Ata and Hazrat Tawus state that certainty of a slave woman's being free from pregnancy will be established after one menstrual cycle.

Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that whoever buys a slave woman should wait for one menstrual cycle to ensure she is free from pregnancy.
