Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hasan says that if a man, while determining the dowry for a woman, says something secretly and something else openly, then what was said secretly will be considered valid and what was said openly will be invalid.

Hazrat Shurayh says that what is said secretly will be considered valid, and what is said openly will become void.

Hazrat Zuhri says that the secretly performed act will be considered valid.

Hazrat Mansur says that I asked Hazrat Hakam bin Utaibah: If a man secretly fixes one thousand as dower and openly fixes two thousand, which one will be considered? He replied that the secretly stated amount will be considered because that is the right, and the openly stated amount will become invalid.

Hazrat Shurayh says that the first of the two will be considered.
