Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that if a free man marries a slave woman, he has only slightly distanced himself from adultery, because Allah Almighty says in the verse { وَأَنْ تَصْبِرُوا خَیْرٌ لَکُمْ } of the Holy Qur'an that if you refrain from marrying slave women, it is better for you.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that if a free man marries a slave woman, he has only slightly distanced himself from adultery.

Hasan considered it disliked for a person to marry a slave woman if he is able to marry a free woman. However, if there is fear of committing adultery, then it is permissible.

Hazrat Ata asked Hazrat Jabir about marriage with a slave woman, so he replied that now it is not permissible.

Makhool says that a free man can marry a slave woman only if he cannot afford the expenses of a free woman.

Hazrat Ammarah bin Hayan says that a woman came to Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid and said that a man has sent a marriage proposal to me for my slave-girl. He said, "Do not marry her there." The woman said that there is a fear of sin for the one who sent the proposal. He again said, "Do not marry her there." The woman said that there is a fear that the one who sent the proposal might commit adultery with the slave-girl. He said, "Then marry her there."

Hazrat Hakam and Hazrat Hammad were asked about marrying a slave woman, so they recited the verse of the Qur'an { لِمَنْ خَشِیَ الْعَنَتَ مِنْکُمْ } This is permissible for the one who fears committing adultery.

Hazrat Mujahid says that this Ummah has been permitted to marry slave women and Christian women.

Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says that if a slave marries a free woman, half of that slave becomes free, and if a free man marries a slave woman, half of him becomes a slave.

Hazrat Aamir says that the marriage of a slave woman is like carrion, blood, and the flesh of swine, which is permissible only for one in severe necessity.
