Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair, regarding the obligatory Hadi, says that one should not eat from it and there is compensation for it; and regarding the voluntary Hadi, he says that one may eat from it.

Hazrat Ata says regarding the person who drives a camel and then it becomes exhausted on the way, that he may eat from it, feed others, and also give it in charity, because now its replacement has become obligatory upon him.

Hazrat Abdullah says that when someone drives the obligatory sacrificial animal (Hadi) and it becomes exhausted, then he may eat from it and feed others as well, and its substitute becomes obligatory upon him.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that if the sacrificial animal (Hadi) becomes exhausted, then slaughter it and eat it, and if that Hadi is obligatory, then provide a substitute for it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a man with eighteen (18) camels and gave him instructions regarding them. He set off and then returned and said, and submitted, "What if any of these camels becomes exhausted on the way?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Slaughter it, dip its shoe in its blood, and place its foot towards the face. You and your companions should not eat from it (but the rest of the people may eat)."

Hazrat Najiyah Al-Khuza'i narrates: I asked, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! If a camel becomes exhausted on the way, what should I do? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Slaughter it, dip its sandal in its blood, and leave it for the people to eat.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Hazrat Zuaib Al-Khuzai stated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent some camels with him and said: If any of these camels becomes exhausted from fatigue and there is a fear of its death, then slaughter it, then dip its shoe in its blood and place its feet towards the face. You and your companions in the group should not eat anything from it.
