Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hasan says that a woman will perform Hajj only with a mahram who is a close blood relative.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that a woman should go with such a group in which there are men and women.

Hazrat Ata says that he should go with such a group in which men and women are included, and a woman should take a ladder and climb on it, and the laborer should not go near her.

A woman from Rayy wrote to Ibrahim that she is wealthy and has no husband, nor any mahram, and she has never performed Hajj. Ibrahim wrote back to her: Indeed, this is the path about which Allah Almighty has spoken, and you have no mahram with you, so do not perform Hajj except with a husband or a mahram.

Hazrat Hasan bin Hasan used to send off a woman who had not performed Hajj to go with such women to go with such women who had their mahrams with them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A woman should not undertake a journey of three days or more except with her mother, father, brother, husband, or a mahram.

A woman asked Hazrat Amir that she wanted to perform Hajj but her husband was away in Khurasan. He replied that if Hajj has become obligatory upon you and you also have a mahram, then there is no objection; go with that mahram.

Hazrat Tawus says that a woman should not perform Hajj with anyone other than her husband or a mahram.

Hazrat Ikrimah was asked whether a woman may perform Hajj without her husband or a mahram. He replied that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a woman from undertaking a journey of three days or more without a mahram.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A woman should not travel for more than three days without a mahram.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivering a sermon, saying: A woman should not travel without a mahram. A man stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! My wife has set out for Hajj and my name has been registered for such-and-such battle." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Go and perform Hajj with your wife."

It was mentioned before Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a woman should not travel without a mahram, so Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that not every woman has a mahram (she does not find a mahram).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A woman should not travel the distance of one day without a mahram.

It was mentioned before Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz that a woman traveled with her slave, so he disliked it. He was informed that he was the woman's foster brother, so he saw no harm in it.
