في الرجل يموت ولم يحج أيحج عنه؟
If someone dies without performing Hajj, should Hajj be done on his behalf?
Hadith 15798
١٥٧٩٨ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا علي بن مسهر عن الشيباني عن يزيد (بن الأصم) (١) عن ابن عباس قال: سأله رجل فقال: (إن أبي) (٢) مات ولم يحج قط أفأحج عنه؟ قال: نعن، فإنك إن لم تزده خيرًا لم تزده شرًا (٣).
A person asked Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that my father passed away without performing Hajj; should I perform Hajj on his behalf? He replied, Yes, indeed, if you cannot add to his good deeds, then do not add to his bad deeds either.
Hadith 15799
١٥٧٩٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا أبو الأحوص عن (طارق) (١) قال: كنت جالسًا عند سعيد بن المسيب فأتاه رجل فقال: إن أبي كان كثير الجهاد ولم يحج أفأحج عنه؟ فقال له سعيد: (قد) (٢) كان رسول اللَّه ﷺ رخص لرجل حج عن أبيه، وهل هو إلا دين (٣).
Hazrat Tariq narrates that I was sitting with Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib when a person came to him and said, "My father used to participate in jihad very frequently, but he did not perform Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib replied to him: "The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted a person to perform Hajj on behalf of his father, and is this not a debt?"
Hadith 15800
١٥٨٠٠ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا مروان بن معاوية عن قدامة بن عبد اللَّه الرؤاسي قال: سألت سعيد بن جبير عن أخ في مات ولم يحج قط أفاحج عنه؟ قال: هل كان ترك من ولد؟ قال: قلت: لا، إلا صبيًا صغيرًا، قال: حج عنه فإنه لو وجد رسولًا لأرسل إليك أن عجل بها قلت: أحج عنه من مالي أو من ماله؟ قال: لا، بل من ماله.
Hazrat Qudamah bin Abdullah al-Rawasi narrates that I asked Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair, "My brother passed away without performing Hajj. Can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He replied, "Does he have any children?" I said, "Except for a small child, he has no one else." He said, "Then perform Hajj on his behalf. Surely, if there was a messenger, he would have sent him to you to fulfill it quickly." I asked, "Should I perform Hajj with his wealth or my own?" He replied, "No, rather do it with his wealth." Then I asked Ibrahim about this matter. He said, "Perform Hajj on his behalf." Then I asked Hazrat Dhahhak. He said, "Perform Hajj on his behalf; surely it will suffice for him, and do it with his wealth."
Hadith 15803
١٥٨٠٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع (عن سفيان) (١) عن منصور عن مجاهد عن رجل يقال له يوسف كان يكون مع ابن الزبير عن عبد اللَّه بن الزبير قال: جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ فقال: يا رسول اللَّه إن أبي مات ولم يحج أفأحج عنه؟ قال: "أنت أكبر ولده؟ "، قال: نعم، قال: "فحج عن أبيك أفرأيت لو كان على أبيك دين فقضيته" (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair that a man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! My father passed away without performing Hajj. Can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Are you his eldest son?" The man replied, "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then perform Hajj on behalf of your father. What do you think, if your father had a debt, would you not pay it?"
Hadith 15804
١٥٨٠٤ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن أسلم (المنقري) (١) عن عطاء قال: يحج عن الميت وإن لم يوص.
Hazrat Ata says that Hajj will be performed on behalf of the deceased even if he does not make a will.
