Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It was mentioned before Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about reciting the Talbiyah on the day of Arafah, so he said that reciting the Takbeer is more preferable to me.

Hazrat Abu Ja'far says that when you proceed towards Arafah, stop reciting the Talbiyah and recite Takbeer and Tahleel.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Yazid narrates that I was with Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) in Arafah when the Talbiyah was recited. A person asked, “Who is reciting the Talbiyah on this day?” Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) turned towards him and said: “Recite, recite, recite in abundance (recite as abundantly as the particles of dust).”

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that we set out from Mina towards Arafat with Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); some among us were reciting Takbeer and some were reciting Talbiyah.

Hazrat Abu Alia reports that I saw Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reciting the Talbiyah at Arafah.

It was mentioned to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Muawiyah forbids reciting the Talbiyah on that day. He came and held onto the two poles of the tent, then recited the Talbiyah and said: Muawiyah knew that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite the Talbiyah on that day, but he preferred to act contrary to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).

Ibrahim narrates that Ibn Mas'ud recited the Talbiyah at 'Arafah. The people asked, "Who is this reciting the Talbiyah?" It was said, "It is Ibn Mas'ud." So the people became silent.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ikrimah bin Khalid that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the Talbiyah during the stay at Arafah.

Hazrat Ibn Ya'foor narrates that I was traveling from Mina to Arafat with Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Hazrat Ibn al-Hanafiyyah. Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was reciting Takbeer, and Hazrat Ibn al-Hanafiyyah was reciting Talbiyah.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Abu Bakr Al-Thaqafi narrates that I asked Hazrat Anas, "How did you people act with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He replied, "Those who recited the Talbiyah would recite the Talbiyah and they were not stopped, and those who recited the Takbeer would recite the Takbeer and they were not stopped."
