Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Allah Almighty has made Makkah Mukarramah sacred; selling its houses and renting them out is neither permissible nor lawful.

Hazrat Mujahid says that it is not permissible to rent out the houses of Makkah Mukarramah.

Hazrat Ata disliked the renting of houses in Makkah Mukarramah.

Hazrat Qasim says that the person who rents out the House in Makkah Mukarramah and consumes its rent is consuming the fire of Hell.

Hazrat Ibn Jurayj states that I read out to the people the letter of Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (in which it was written that) it is not permissible to rent out the houses and residential buildings of Makkah Mukarramah (this has been prohibited).

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) says that those people who rent out their houses in Makkah Mukarramah and consume the rent are filling their bellies with the fire of Hell.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that Hazrat Umar had forbidden the people of Makkah from making doors for their houses so that the pilgrims could come and stay in the courtyards of those houses (and reside there).

The father of Hazrat Ja'far says that the houses of Makkah should not have doors; the people of Egypt and Iraq come with their caravans of camels and they enter the houses of Makkah.
