Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdur Rahman narrates that I was with Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), when a man came and said: I had sent a camel as Hadi (sacrificial animal), but I lost it on the way. Will that camel suffice on my behalf? He replied: If it was for a vow or expiation, then fulfill it, for it has not been fulfilled on your behalf at the House of Allah. But if it was a voluntary sacrifice, then it has been fulfilled. The narrator says: I asked, even if it was a goat? He replied: Yes, even if it was a goat.

Hazrat Umar ordered the compensation of a young lamb for hunting a hare.

Hazrat Sha'bi states that for hunting a rabbit, one should give in charity food equal to a handful or less.

Hazrat Ata says that for hunting a rabbit, a goat is obligatory.

Hazrat Dahhak says that for hunting a rabbit, it is obligatory to offer a calf or a kid (of cow or goat) that is less than three years old.
