Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) substituted a ram in place of a badger if a muhrim kills it, and he counted it among the game.

A man killed a badger while in the state of Ihram, then he came to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask about it. He (Ali) made a ram obligatory upon him.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that if a badger attacks a person in the state of Ihram and the Muhrim kills it (then there is nothing upon him), but if he kills it without it attacking, then a four-year-old goat is obligatory upon him.

It is narrated in the same way from Hazrat Umar.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that if a badger is not aggressive and a person in the state of Ihram kills it, then a ram is obligatory upon him; Hazrat Ata also says the same.

Marwan asked Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) a question. He replied: A ram is obligatory upon him.
