Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Uthman that a person complained to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he was in the state of Ihram and had pain in his eyes, so a bandage of aloe was tied over his eyes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Nafi' that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) did this in this manner.

When Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) experienced pain in his eye while in the state of Ihram, he put a few drops of aloe juice in it.

Hazrat Alqamah says that there is no harm in applying aloe extract to the eyes while in the state of Ihram.

Hazrat Shumaisa Al-Azdiyyah narrates that I went to Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) while I was in the state of Ihram and had pain in my eyes. Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Come closer, I will apply kohl (medicine) to your eyes. She had a shell-like container in which there was aloe. I did not accept her suggestion and refused. Later, I felt great regret that I wish I had not refused (and had it applied).

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib says that there is no harm in applying it.

Hazrat Ata says that if a person in Ihram has pain in his eyes, he may apply aloe or any other medicine to his eyes, but he should not use kohl that contains fragrance.

It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Zaid that a person came to Hasan and asked, "O Abu Saeed! What should a Muhrim apply to his eyes?" Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid was also present with them. Hasan remained silent. Hazrat Jabir said, "He should apply honey." Hasan did not object to his statement.

Hazrat Qatadah and Hazrat Abu Hashim say that in the state of Ihram, one can apply Elwa, Hazzaz medicine, and other bitter medicines to the eyes.

Hazrat Mujahid disliked black kohl for a person in Ihram. The narrator says that I mentioned this to Ibrahim; he said: He may use red powder.
