Those who permitted performing tawaf while riding
Hadith 13608
١٣٦٠٨ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: ثنا بن (مسهر) (١) عن ابن جريج عن أبي الزبير ⦗٥٣١⦘ عن جابر قال: طاف رسول اللَّه ﷺ بالبيت في (حجة) (٢) الوداع على راحلته يستلم الحجر (بمحجنه) (٣) (٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Tawaf during the Farewell Pilgrimage while riding on a mount, and he touched the Black Stone with a curved stick.
Hadith 13609
١٣٦٠٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: ثنا ابن علية عن خالد الحذاء عن عكرمة أن النبي ﷺ (١) طاف بالبيت على بعير، فكان إذا أتى (على) (٢) الحجر الأسود أشار إليه (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ikrimah that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the circumambulation of the Ka'bah while riding a camel, and whenever he passed by the Black Stone, he would gesture towards it.
Hadith 13610
١٣٦١٠ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: ثنا عبدة عن هشام عن أبيه أن أم سلمة قالت: يا رسول اللَّه ما (طفت) (١) طواف الخروج، فقال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إذا أقيمت الصلاة فطوفي على بعيرك من وراء الناس" (٢).
Hazrat Umm Salamah narrates that I said, O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! I have not performed the farewell Tawaf. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, When the prayer is established, mount your camel and perform the Tawaf from behind the people.
Hadith 13611
١٣٦١١ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: ثنا ابن فضيل عن يزيد عن عكرمة عن ابن عباس قال: جاء رسول اللَّه ﷺ وقد اشتكى، فطاف بالبيت على بعير ومعه (محجن) (١) كلما مر على الحجر استلمه، فلما فرغ من طوافه أناخ، ثم صلى ركعتين (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came while he was experiencing some discomfort. Then he performed Tawaf riding on a camel. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a curved staff with him; whenever he passed by the Black Stone, he would touch it with the staff. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) completed the Tawaf, he dismounted from the camel and then performed two rak‘ahs (units of prayer).
Hadith 13612
١٣٦١٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: ثنا وكيع عن معروف المكي قال: سمعت أبا الطفيل وأنا غلام (يقول) (١): رأيت رسول اللَّه ﷺ يطوف بالبيت على راحلته (٢).
Hazrat Ma'ruf al-Makki says that when I was young, I heard from Hazrat Abu al-Tufail, who said that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the circumambulation (Tawaf) of the Ka'bah while riding on a mount.
Hadith 13613
١٣٦١٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: ثنا أبو خالد عن حجاج عن عطاء أن النبي ﷺ (طاف) (١) طاف بالبيت على راحلته، يستلم الحجر بمحجنه وبين الصفا والمروة، فقلت لعطاء: ما أراد إلى ذلك، قال: التوسعة على أمته (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Tawaf of the Ka'bah while riding and touched the Black Stone with a curved stick, and performed Sa'i between Safa and Marwah. Hazrat Hajjaj says that I asked Hazrat Ata what was the purpose of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in doing so? He replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did this to make things easier for the Ummah.
Hadith 13614
١٣٦١٤ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: ثنا أبو أسامة عن هشام بن عروة قال: كان أبي (إذا) (١) رآهم يطوفون بالبيت على الدواب (نهاهم) (٢).
Hazrat Hisham states that whenever my respected father saw someone performing Tawaf on a ride, he would prohibit them.
