Hazrat Zaid bin Jubair says that I was sitting with Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), when a woman came to him and said: I had vowed to perform Hajj, but I have never performed Hajj before this? He replied: This is the Hajj of Islam, so pay attention to that which will fulfill your vow.

A woman came to Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and asked: I had made a vow that I would perform Hajj, and I have not yet performed the obligatory Hajj of Islam. Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to her: By the Lord of the Ka'bah, you have fulfilled both.

Hazrat Ikrimah was asked that a person has made a vow to perform Hajj and he has not performed Hajj yet. He replied: One Hajj will suffice for both his obligatory Hajj and the vow.

Hazrat Mujahid says that if a person has taken an oath to perform Hajj and he has not yet performed the obligatory Hajj of Islam, then if he gets the opportunity to perform Hajj, one Hajj will suffice for both (the obligatory Hajj and the oath). Later, if he becomes capable, he should perform Hajj again.

Hazrat Laith and Hazrat Mujahid state that if someone is obligated to perform the Hajj of Islam and also has a vow (to perform Hajj), and he performs the Hajj of Islam (once), then it will suffice for both.

A person asked Hazrat Ata that he had vowed to perform Hajj, but he had not yet performed the obligatory Hajj of Islam. Which Hajj should he perform first? He replied, "Begin with the Hajj of Islam."

Hazrat Abu Sulaiman says that I heard Hazrat Anas saying: If a person has made a vow to perform Hajj and he has not yet performed the obligatory Hajj of Islam even once, then he should begin with the obligatory Hajj.
