What to do if someone dies at sea
Hadith 12211
١٢٢١١ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن واصل عن الحسن قال: إذا مات الرجل في البحر جعل في (زنبيل) (١) ثم قذف به.
Hasan says that if a person dies at sea (for example, on a ship), he should be placed in a basket (box) and then cast into the sea.
Hadith 12212
١٢٢١٢ - حدثنا حفص عن حجاج عن عطاء في الذي يموت في البحر قال: يغسل ويكفن ويحنط ويصلى عليه، ثم يربط في رجليه شيء ثم يرمى به في البحر.
Hazrat Ata says regarding the person who passes away in the sea that he will be given a bath, shrouded, perfumed, and then his funeral prayer will be offered. Then, after tying something (heavy) to his legs, he will be let into the sea.
