Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the funeral prayer of a woman, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood in the middle of her (body).

Hazrat Abu Al-Ghalib narrates that when the funeral of a man was brought to Hazrat Anas, he stood at the head of the bier, and when the funeral of a woman was brought, he stood at her chest. Hazrat Alaa bin Ziyad inquired, "Did you see the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) do the same?" He replied, "Yes." Then he turned towards us and said, "Remember this."

Hazrat Yazid bin Abi Mansoor narrates that I asked Hazrat Abu Rafi’ where should I stand during the funeral (prayer)? He took off his shoes and then said, “Here,” meaning in the middle.

Hazrat Humaid says that I have offered countless funeral prayers behind Hasan for both men and women, and I did not see that he cared about where he was standing.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that the one who is performing the funeral prayer should stand near the chest of the deceased.

Hasan says: Stand in front of the woman’s chest and a little above that for the man’s funeral.

Hasan says that stand near the woman’s thigh and near the man’s chest.

Hazrat Abi Husain narrates that when Hazrat Abdullah performed the funeral prayer, he would stand in the middle for a man and a little above the chest for a woman.

Hazrat Ata says: When a person leads the funeral prayer, he should stand near the chest (of the deceased).

Ibrahim says that the person who leads the funeral prayer should stand near its chest.
