Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Harith that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the funeral prayer of Hazrat Hamza and recited nine (9) takbirs. Then another funeral was brought, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited seven takbirs. Then another funeral was brought, and he recited five takbirs. In this manner, he continued until he had finished with all the funerals. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited an odd number of takbirs for each funeral.

Hazrat Musa bin Abdullah bin Yazid narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah honor his face) led the funeral prayer of Hazrat Qatadah and recited seven takbeers in it.

Ibrahim says that no more than seven takbirs and no less than four takbirs will be said.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Malik that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the funeral prayer of Hazrat Hamza. The companions were lifting the other funerals in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while the funeral of Hazrat Hamza remained in front of him each time. This continued until he had finished with all the funerals.

Hazrat Abu Malik narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the funeral prayer of Hazrat Hamza in such a way that nine other bodies were placed alongside him; after the funeral prayer, those nine were taken away and the body of Hazrat Hamza remained there. Then nine more bodies were brought, and this continued in the same manner until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had completed the funeral prayers for all the bodies.

Imam Shabi states that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him, may Allah honor his face) led the funeral prayer of Hazrat Sahl bin Hunaif and recited six takbirs in it.

Hazrat Bakr ibn Abdullah says that in the funeral prayer, there should not be less than three takbirs and not more than seven.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Ma’qil that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him, may Allah honor his face) recited six takbirs in the funeral prayer of Sahl bin Hunaif.

It is narrated from Ibn Mughaffal that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said six takbirs at the funeral of Sahl bin Hunaif.
