Hazrat Abu Al-Aryan Al-Hadhdha’ says that I offered the funeral prayer behind Hazrat Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). When the prayer was finished, I held his hand and asked, "What did you do?" He replied, "I recited Surah Al-Fatihah over him."

Hazrat Qatadah narrates from a person of Hamdan that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite Surah Al-Fatihah in the funeral prayer.

Ibn Aun narrates that Hasan used to recite Surah Al-Fatihah in every takbeer of the funeral prayer.

Hazrat Dhahhak says that between the first two takbeers of the funeral prayer, recite Surah Al-Fatihah.

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib says that the Sunnah method in the funeral prayer is to recite Surah Al-Fatihah.

Hazrat Burd narrates that Hazrat Mak’hool used to recite Surah Al-Fatiha after the first two Takbeers in the funeral prayer. If people gave him the opportunity for supplication, he would supplicate during the prayer.

Hazrat Ubaid bin Sabaaq narrates that I saw Hazrat Sahl bin Hunaif reciting Surah Al-Fatiha in the first Takbeer of the funeral prayer.

Hazrat Saeed narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) recited aloud in the funeral prayer, and then said: I recited in a loud voice so that you people may know that there is recitation in the funeral prayer.

Hazrat Abu Ma’bad narrates that people asked Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about reciting Surah Al-Fatiha aloud in the funeral prayer and saying three takbeers in the funeral prayer.

Hazrat Zaid bin Talha narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) used to recite Surah Al-Fatihah in the funeral prayer.

Hazrat Fadala states that those who offered the funeral prayer of Hazrat Abu Bakr and Hazrat Umar recited Surah Al-Fatiha in it.
