Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Masna bin Bilal Al-Abdi narrates that these gentlemen have related to me that when Hazrat Zaid bin Suhan was wounded in the Battle of Jamal, they were present there at that time. Hazrat Zaid said, "Tie my clothes over me, and do not wash the blood and soil from over me, because I am a fighting man."

When Ibn Sirin was asked about giving ghusl (ritual washing) to a martyr, he narrated the hadith of Hajar bin Adi: Hajar bin Adi, before his martyrdom, said to a member of his household: He said, "Do not wash my blood, and do not separate my weapons from me, and bury me in these very clothes of mine. Surely, I and Muawiyah will meet tomorrow at the same dining spread."

Hazrat Abu Ishaq narrates that when one of the companions of Hazrat Abdullah was killed by the enemy, we buried him in the same clothes.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrates that on the day of Qadisiyyah, Hazrat Sa’d bin Ubaid al-Qari said: "Tomorrow, God willing, we will meet the enemy and we will be among the martyrs. Do not wash our blood and shroud us in these very clothes."

Hazrat Iyzar bin Harith narrates that Hazrat Zaid bin Suhan said on the day of the Battle of Jamal: Bury me and do not wash my blood, and remove my socks but do not remove my clothes. Because I will present all these things in my favor on the Day of Judgment.

Hazrat Zaid bin Suhan said during the Battle of Jamal that bury us and our blood that has fallen on the ground.

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib and Hasan state that a martyr should be given ghusl (ritual washing), and so should one who dies in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity).

Hazrat Aamir narrates that Hazrat Hanzala was given a bath by the angels.

Hazrat Ammar said, "Bury me in my clothes, for I am a fighter (one who participates in jihad)."

The same is narrated from Hazrat Ammar.

Ibrahim says that when the slain (in the battlefield of jihad) is lifted, he will be buried in the same clothes, and if he is lifted and there is still some sign of life in him, then the same procedure will be adopted with him as is done with others.

Hazrat Aamir was asked about a person who was killed by thieves? He replied: He will be buried in the same clothes and will not be given a bath.

Hazrat Thabit bin Amarah narrates that I heard Hazrat Ghaneem bin Qais say: The martyr will be buried in the same clothes and he will not be given a bath.

Hasan says that if there is pus, etc. on the murdered person, then he will be given a bath.

Hazrat Hammad says that when a person dies in battle, he should be buried and his socks and shoes should be removed, and if he was taken from the battlefield while there was still some sign of life in him, and then he died, he should be treated like ordinary dead (i.e., given a bath, etc.).

Hasan narrates that when Hazrat Hamza was martyred, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that he be given a bath, so he was given a bath.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) neither offered the funeral prayer for the martyrs of the Battle of Uhud nor did he give them a bath.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that Hazrat Umar was given a shroud, was bathed, and perfume was applied.

It is narrated in a similar manner from Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and at the end he says that you are among the best of martyrs.

Hazrat Ibrahim says that when a person is martyred in battle, he will be buried in the same clothes and will not be given a bath.
