If a Woman's Dowry Is Owed by Her Husband, Is Zakah Due on It?
Hadith 11061
١١٠٦١ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: (حدثنا) (١) معتمر (بن سليمان) (٢) عن (عمران) (٣) القطان قال: سئل الحسن هل على المرأة زكاة في مالها على ظهر زوجها قال: إن كان (به) (٤) مليًا فعليها زكاته.
It is narrated from Imran bin al-Qattan that Hasan was asked: If a woman's dowry is owed by a man, is zakat obligatory on the woman? He replied: If it has been with her for a long time, then zakat is obligatory on the woman.
Hadith 11062
١١٠٦٢ - حدثنا إسحاق الأزرق عن جويبر عن الضحاك أنه قال: على المرأة أن تزكي مهرها إذا كان على زوجها إن كان موسرًا، وإن كان فقيرًا فليس (عليها) (١) شيء.
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that if a woman is wealthy, she will pay zakat on her mahr, and if she is poor, then nothing is obligatory on her.
