Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Charity is not lawful for the rich and the strong.

Hazrat Hubshi bin Junadah narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying that asking (begging) is not permissible for the wealthy and the strong.

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Adi bin Khiyar narrates that two men informed me that both of them came to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to ask for charity (zakat). The narrator says that the Prophet quickly raised his eyes towards them and looked at them carefully and said, "Both of you are strong and healthy." Then he said, "If you wish, I can give to both of you, but there is no share (in charity and zakat) for a rich person and for one who is strong and able to earn."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) says that it is not appropriate for a wealthy and able person to take charity (zakat).

Hazrat Hamzah bin Abdullah narrates from his father that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Any person among you who keeps asking (begging) continuously, until he meets Allah Almighty in such a state that there will be no flesh on his face.
