Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Qasim that whenever Hazrat Siddiq Akbar granted a stipend to someone from the treasury, he would ask him whether he possessed any wealth. If the answer was yes, he would deduct zakat from the amount of the stipend; otherwise, he would hand it over to him.

Hazrat Abdullah says that when we received ten to twenty-five camels or goats as allowance (stipend) from the treasury, we used to pay zakat on it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hubairah that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pay zakat on stipends; it was twenty-five on every thousand.

It is narrated from Hazrat Humaid bin Abdur Rahman that Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abd al-Qari was appointed as (supervisor) over the treasury along with Hazrat Abdullah bin Arqam during the time of Hazrat Umar Farooq. When stipends were distributed from the treasury, Hazrat Umar would gather the merchants' goods, then calculate the cash and credit, and then collect zakat from every present and absent person.

It is narrated from Hazrat Qasim that whenever Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq granted a stipend to someone, he would ask him. The rest of the hadith is narrated in the same manner.

It is narrated from Hazrat Tariq that whenever Hazrat Umar Farooq granted a stipend (gift) to someone from the treasury, he would not take out zakat on it.

It is narrated from Muhammad that he says: I have seen the nobles (Companions) that when they receive gifts, they also pay zakat on them.

Hazrat Ja'far bin Burqan narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz used to pay Zakat on stipends (allowances) and gifts.

Whenever Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) granted someone a stipend, he would also pay zakat on it.
